Playa Grande is part of a sanctuary where Giant Leatherback turtles come to lay their eggs on the beach each year, from October to March. It is also a favored surfing area, just north of the big surf town, Tamarindo. Playa Grande is just starting to grow as the government finalizes the development rules, which will protect the turtles.
There is amazing beach property in Playa Grande. There are homes and home sites available steps from the beach, nestled under the shade trees, near the estuary, and in the hillsides overlooking the beach. Buying real estate in Playa Grande is an investment in the protection of this special bech.
Matapalo
To get to Playa Grande, you go through the quaint Tico town called Matapalo. Just one block off the main square is a great new gated community, called Cabo Vela Estates.
