Zapotal
Ready for a billion dollar resort development
Punta Zapotal is the northern most beach before you get to the Costa Esmeralda Refuge that separate the Gold Coast area from the towns of Playa Ocotal and Playas del Coco.
The three white sand beaches surrounding this point are Playa Guacamaya, Playa Zapotal and Playa Celeste. The Union Box Company has purchased the 2,000 acres (800 hectares) covering these beaches and the ridges and valleys surrounding them.
The Union Box Company is planning a billion dollar development here that will take 15 years to complete. The project, known as Guacamaya, will include two luxury hotels, an 18-hole golf course, a 200-slip marina, an equestrian center and up to 800 single family homes. The developers have also been approved to construct a desalinization plant on the property.
The property is being prepared for construction now, but no sales information has been released yet. This is an area to keep a watch on.
